CoSiMa
CoSiMa - Combining simulations, machines and tools to optimize the production process of polymer products
The CoSiMa project is a project co-funded by the Republic of Slovenia - Ministry of Education, Science and Sport - and the European Union – European Regional Development Fund. It is placed on the priority area “Factories of the Future (INDUSTRY 4.0)” and the subsection “Smart Mechatronic Tools”.
Project duration: 01.09. 2018 – 31.12 2021
The value of co-financing of the project by the Republic of Slovenia, the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport and the European Union, the European Regional Development Fund totaling: 1,883,117.19 €.

The quality of plastics injection moulding processes depends still very much on the experience of the machine operator. CoSiMa's main objective is to ensure the rapid and reliable flow of information (e.g. pre-definition of optimal process parameters) to technical staff on the shop floor in order to facilitate more precise adjustment of the injection moulding processes and to assist the optimization of product quality directly at the machine.
A major target of the project is the definition and development of an advanced communication interface that will allow the connection of simulation software to the production environment and will enable the transfer of important data, like process parameters and sensor data, to the Manufacturing Execution system (MES) and vice versa.
The CoSiMa project addresses the focus area "Linking simulation tools with production machines to optimize production processes". Through the proper integration of process simulations into the information flow to and from injection moulding machines and tool sensors, a fast, efficient and reliable optimization of the manufacturing process will be enabled.
